Muck away is the collection and removal of excavated spoil and construction material. WCR helps organise soil, clay and hardcore removal for groundworks, construction and landscaping projects. We need to know what the material is, where it came from and how it will be loaded before confirming a collection.

Tell us what is in the spoil

Soil from an excavation, clean hardcore and mixed demolition waste can require different arrangements. Keep materials separate where practical and describe any visible contamination, unusual odours or unknown previous use of the ground. Testing or classification information should be shared if you have it. We do not book unknown or contaminated material as an ordinary clean-soil load.

Choose the loading method

A grab can load a reachable pile using its own arm. A tipper normally needs a suitable on-site loading machine and enough room to work. Tell us whether an excavator or loader is available, who will operate it and how the vehicle reaches the loading area. This helps avoid sending the wrong lorry.

Plan quantities, timing and records

Send excavation dimensions or your estimate of the material already stockpiled. Dense soil and wet clay cannot be priced or loaded by volume alone. For a sequence of loads, share the dig schedule and any delivery gate times. Ask which collection and waste documentation will be provided for the agreed materials and keep the records with your project paperwork.

What is the difference between muck away and grab hire?

Muck away describes removal of excavated material. Grab hire describes the vehicle and loading method. A muck away job may use a grab or a tipper, depending on the material and loading access.

Can you take contaminated or unknown soil?

Do not include contaminated or unidentified material in a standard soil booking. Share its origin, any test results and clear photos. The material needs assessment and a suitable collection route before we can confirm whether we can help.

Do I need a loading machine?

A grab can load a suitable reachable pile itself. A tipper usually needs an on-site loading machine. Tell us what plant is available and the space around the pile when requesting a quote.

How is muck away priced?

Material classification, weight or volume, disposal requirements, loading method, journey and number of loads all affect the price. Send as much of this information as you can to receive a useful quote.
